Fat Pets Fat Owners
- overweight pets slim down at the Royal Canin Weight
Management Clinic
As 40% of the UK pet population is now classed as
overweight or obese a new documentary on Sky Real Lives is
aiming to help three pets (and their owners) reach a more healthy
weight.
In this clip, the owners visit the award-winning Royal Canin Weight
Management Clinic in Liverpool, where the amount that they
are overfeeding their pets with unsuitable human food is
revealed. The clinic was set up in 2005 and helped develop our
obesity diets, which the overweight cats and dogs will be fed
on for safe, gradual, weight loss.
Fat Pets Fat Owners is on Sky Real Lives on Thursday 16th,
Friday 17th and Saturday 18th July at 8.30pm.

Pet Blood Bank
Mobile tours the UK with a little help from Royal
Canin

The Royal Canin mobile blood collection unit is on tour across
the UK helping charity Pet Blood Bank collect vital blood
for life-saving blood transfusions. It is pictured above at a
recent blood drive at Nottingham Vet School, where enough blood was
collected to save the lives of up to 32 dogs. Also in the picture
is Beau, a dog whose life was saved thanks to blood collected
from the Pet Blood Bank.
Find out more about Beau's story and see his brave housemate
Lotti giving blood in this video.
For every one donation, potentially four dogs' lives can be
saved. Dogs can give blood if they meet certain criteria - they
must be aged between 1 and 8 years old, weigh no less than
25kg and have not travelled abroad. For more information and a full
list of criteria, visit the Pet Blood Bank website. All
dogs who donate get a bowl of food, a new toy and lots of love and
attention.
The next blood drives are taking place on Thursday 4th
June at Oadby Vets 4 Pets, Wigston, Leicester and
Saturday 6th June at Rutland House Referrals,
Sutton Leach. Call 01509 232 222 if you would like to book an
appointment.

Internet cat Charlie thrives on Royal Canin
Convalescence Support
If you've visited the Your Cat website lately you may have
noticed a new addition to the front page. The gorgeous Charlie, a
one-year-old rescue cat owned by Your Cat Web Editor James Buzzel,
now has his very own webcam and blog.
Unfortunately Charlie was recently involved in a car accident
which left him with a broken pelvis and jaw. He's now undergone
major surgery and although he no longer has a tail, he's well on
the road to recovery.
If you watch carefully you'll see Charlie enjoying his
Royal Canin Convalescence Support Pouches, which he's been
eating since his operation. Your Cat tell us that he shows no signs
of losing his appetite and that his energy is increasing
every day.
Visit Your Cat to check out the
Charlie Cam and blog.

Ronaldo is the 10-day-old kitten who miraculously survived a
3-day journey on a lorry from Europe without food or
water. Yesterday Ronaldo faced being put to sleep if
support couldn't be found to help him through six months in
quarantine. Royal Canin have since come forward and
provided Ronaldo with Babycat
Milk, Babycat 34 and Kitten 36 to feed the kitten throughout his
quarantine period and a cat bed to ensure his stay is as pleasant
as possible.

Westie diet marks 17th breed diet for Royal
Canin
With the launch of our new food for West
Highland White Terriers, we now have 17
breed-specific diets to help keep your breed of dog
healthy and happy.
West Highland White Terrier 21 is formulated to help
enhance the skin's natural defences and maintain its barrier
function while helping to maintain the Westie's bright white coat.
As the Westie can be prone to tartar and dental problems, our
Westie kibble works hard to help with dental hygiene. Not only does
it contain calcium chelators to help prevent tartar building up,
but even the act of chewing the kibble helps clean teeth thanks to
its clever construction.
For a full list of benefits, ingredients and feeding guidelines,
please visit the West Highland White
Terrier 21 product page.

Pugs join the Breed Health Nutrition line
up
The Pug's short hair and folded skin may make him extra cute,
but they also mean the breed can be prone to skin
problems. Pug 25 - one of the latest additions to the Royal Canin Breed Health Nutrition range -
contains a patented complex of B vitamins and omega 3 fatty
acids to help keep your Pug's skin in great condition.
The special clover shaped Pug 25 kibble is designed to make it
easy for the Pug to pick up - something these small
dogs sometimes struggle with due to their broad head and
very short muzzle. The diet is also specially formulated to
help Pugs maintain a healthy weight and a combination of
polyphenols from grape and green tea, plus vitamins E & E help
to preserve vitality in older Pugs.
View the Pug 25 product page for full
details, feeding guidelines and ingredients list.

Junior Boxers get their own Royal Canin
food
Boxer Junior 30 joins Boxer 30 in our Breed Health Nutrition range to
help keep your young Boxer in the best of health up to 15
months of age.
Boxers are an energetic breed - with a high percentage of
muscle and loads of energy they need a high level of energy in
their food to match. Boxer Junior encourages the correct
development of muscle mass and helps look after joints from an
early age with optimal protein content plus a high level of
L-carnitine, chondroitin and glucosamine. To ensure your Boxer
benefits from all these ingredients, the ergonomically
designed kibble is specially shaped for the junior
Boxer's brachycephalic jaw, making it easy to pick
up while encouraging chewing.

ingredients, visit the Boxer Junior 30

Boxer Harry wins Pet Idol contest
Boxer Harry has beaten off competition from 525 other pets who
entered the Pet Idol contest in Somerset's Western Gazette,
sponsored by Royal Canin, to claim the title. Over 3000 votes were
cast for the top ten pets by Western Gazette readers, and the
overall winners were chosen by Royal Canin managing director
Francois Demauge, retail marketing manager Geraldine Jacquier,
World of Shirabell pet shop owner Sue Lowe and Western Gazette
editor Tim Dixon.
Mr Demauge said, 'the final decisions were very difficult but
the competition has been a huge success because, as we know people
love their pets and they are prepared to go to great time and
trouble to participate. It shows we are in a country of pet lovers
and that is something we can be proud of.'
Harry wins £250 of Royal Canin food, and runners up Luna and
Penny will each be enjoying £150 of Royal
Canin products.

Border Collie Gyp takes home a year's supply of
Royal Canin Medium Sensible with Pet
Protect
Jackie Bromwich and her 3yr old Border Collie, Gyp, were
delighted to find that through Pet Protect Insurance they had
won a year’s worth of free food from Royal Canin. Jackie was
entered into the prize draw when she insured Gyp with Pet
Protect.
Gyp, who competes in agility and qualified for Crufts this year,
was bred by Jackie and lives with her 7 other dogs. He is a trained
Sheepdog and is regularly in work. Gyp will be fed on Royal Canin Medium Sensible, which due to its
high energy content is perfect for providing Gyp with the energy he
needs for agility and working without overloading his stomach or
causing digestive upsets, which Border Collies are sometimes prone
to.
Alison Daff, Marketing Manager at Royal Canin, awarded Jackie
and Gyp with a year's supply of food at the Belmont House
Veterinary Clinic, where Jackie works as a Pet Behaviorist. Gyp
certainly looks pleased with it judging by that high five!
