Weigh-in Club Winners

During 2011 Royal Canin ran the Weigh-in Club Winners Competition from February until 31st October 2011. The competition was a huge success with over 170 cats and dogs entering and reaching their healthy target weight. First of all we'd like to say thank you to all the nurses, clients and most importantly pets who worked so hard to lose the weight safely, you have all done an amazing job!

the obesity nurse from Liverpool University finally whittled down the top 12 entries.

So who is our Weigh-in Club Winner 2012?

FUDGE!
Fudge is a large cross breed who visited Margetts & Associates Vet Surgeons in Kent with his owners Mr and Mrs Debuse. On Fudge's initial visit he weight in at an astonishing 77.7kg! The vet advised that Fudge needed to lose weight as he was unhealthy, had no energy and before he started with any other problems. 'We didn't really realise how overweight Fudge had become until I visited the vet, I didn't realise how easily it can happen or how easily it can be corrected!' Mr & Mrs Debuse. Fudge was then referred to Julia Dray's weight clinic who started Fudge on Royal Canin's Satiety Support. With a little guidance about food, exercise and regular check ups Julia helped Mr & Mrs Debuse to alter Fudge's routine.
Over 10 months Fudge lost weight healthily and reached his target weight of 48.7kg making him a much happier dog! 'Fudge lost an enourmous amount of weight and is a different dog now, in looks and activity levels. Satiety Support made it much easier than we thought it would be' Mr & Mrs Debuse.
Judge Shelley Holden states:
'Fudge’s weight loss has been amazing. He has lost 37% of his bodyweight at a fantastic rate of 1% a week. This is remarkable due to the amount of reduction required for him to reach target weight. His before and after pictures really tell the story, his energy and health has obviously improved dramatically. I am delighted for Fudge and his new active lifestyle, and I am especially pleased to see that he is maintaining his target weight post loss. Congratulations to Fudge and all involved with his incredible loss of 29kg!!!'

Launch of Two New Diets

Royal Canin’s ‘DermAlliance’ Strengthened with Launch of Two New Diets

With an estimated 1 in 4 of all veterinary consultations about skin disease1, Royal Canin is set to launch two new diets at this year’s London Vet Show (24-25 November) – further strengthening its expert position in the field of skin care. ‘Hypoallergenic Wet’ is a new wet adaptation of its successful ‘Hypoallergenic’ range of diets, providing variety for the nutritional management of dogs with adverse food reactions; whilst Royal Canin’s new ‘Anallergenic’ dry food signals a nutritional revolution in the dietary management of dogs with even the most severe dietary allergy. ‘Hypoallergenic Wet’ contains soy protein hydrolysate, like the well-established dry diets in this range, and so can either be fed as a complete diet or interchanged and used as an addition to Hypoallergenic, Hypoallergenic Moderate Calorie or Hypoallergenic Small Dog. The wet food, available in a 400g can, can be recommended for short term feeding (for an elimination diet strategy) or for the lifelong nutritional management of dogs with adverse food reactions. It is designed to be highly digestible through its low molecular weight peptides and is also appropriate for the dietary support of dogs with inflammatory bowel disease, chronic diarrhoea and Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency (EPI). ‘Anallergenic’ follows in the footsteps of Hypoallergenic but goes even further – offering both hydrolysed proteins and a pure carbohydrate source, to which exposure is limited and therefore allergy would be rare. The diet comprises a unique protein source composed exclusively of free amino acids and very low molecular weight oligopeptides. Much like the Hypoallergenic range, Anallergenic is also formulated with essential fatty acids to help support skin health and a complex of nutrients to help maintain the barrier effect of the skin. The fully balanced diet - suitable for the nutritional support of adult dogs either short or long-term - has proven results with 100% of dogs in a Royal Canin study showing significant improvement in their skin condition. Gudi Stuttard BVSc MRCVS, one of Royal Canin’s Veterinary Support Managers, explains: “These two new products join our well-established ‘Hypoallergenic’ range, as well as our recently launched ‘Skin Care’ diets - for the nutritional management of dogs with dermatosis unrelated to food intolerance or allergy. “By building on our portfolio of veterinary skin care diets, we aim to further strengthen our DermAlliance campaign, which is dedicated to assisting in the improvement of skin care knowledge in general veterinary practice.”
