Cereals of low glycaemic index (maize) enables control of postprandial hyperglycaemia.
Dietary fibre slows small intestinal absorption and improves glycaemic control in diabetic dogs.
Diabetes mellitus promotes oxidative stress, which in turn favours the development of diabetes-associated chronic complications (Opara 2002).
